Head Quarters Unit

         The Crime Branch CID, Headquarters Unit was formed in accordance with G.O.Ms.No.783, dated 14.3.80 and the office is located in the III Block of SIDCO Electronic Complex, Thiru Vi. Ka Industrial Estate, Guindy, Chennai-32, since 20.04.2008. The Headquarters unit is headed by DSP, Hqrs, CBCID. Under his control, (i) Headquarters Unit, (ii) Control Room, (iii) Motor Transport, (iv) Audio Visual Unit & (v) Computer Wing are functioning.

          The Headquarters unit is having two Inspectors, viz. Inspector of Police, Administration and Inspector of Police, Headquarters with the strength of 4 SIs and 30 other ranks. The Headquarters Unit co-ordinates the administrative aspect of CBCID and attends to maintenance of Vehicles, Computers, Audio/Video equipments and Interrogation Room. This unit is also looks after their welfare measures. This unit also attends to the work relating to conduct of State and All India Police duty meet, Commemoration Parade and liaison work with other agencies etc. This unit investigates cases of sensitive nature and makes enquiries on confidential reference.

          The Control Room is having one Inspector, 3 S.I.s and 7 other ranks . The Control Room is working round the clock and it has been entrusted with the task of receiving and disseminating messages to the concerned officers. The messages received from P.P. High Court and Chief Office are transmitted over phone/micro wave/WT Messages to respective units of CBCID. The Inspector of Police, Control Room is responsible for supervising the functioning of the Control Room apart from investigating cases and conducting enquiries into current references. The Inspector of Police, Control Room is also incharge of Audio Visual Unit, which is maintaining photocopy Machine, Video equipments and Computers. Two Reserve Inspectors are incharge of M.T unit. One S.I., 52 other ranks are assisting them. The repairs of the vehicles are undertaken in (1) Government Automobile Workshop, Velachery and (2) Police Workshop, Avadi. Periodical service and maintenance are done regularly. All the urgent petty repairs are carried out in Government approved private workshops after observing the standing rules. The vehicles in the detachments are repaired in the nearest Government workshops.

         The Headquarters vehicles are drawing their fuel from the St. Thomas Mount District Police Office bunk and the detachment vehicles are drawing fuel from concerned district Armed Reserve Bunks. Where no A.R. Bunk is available, fuel is drawn from the private bunks. The sanctioned strength of the Audio Visual Technicians is two and there is no shortage. Under the scheme of provision of sophisticated equipments for Crime surveillance, detection and improving of communication, an Audio Visual Unit was opened in Crime Branch CID on 26.7.1985 as per G.O.Ms.No.1048, Home (Pol.I) Department, Chennai dated 24.5.1984. Two Audio Visual Technicians have to attend Video coverage, still photography etc. Besides training is being given by them to the competitors of All India Police Duty Meet in SAI Photography, Professional Photography and Videography.

          Under Modernization of Police Force scheme two Interagation rooms with latest gadgets have been set up. The State Government in G.O.Ms.No.184, Home (Modern) Department, dated 27.2.2001 have sanctioned and allocated a sum of Rs.20.75 lakhs towards the provision of DATA Processing Equipments and Aids to investigation. The Investigating Officers from all over the State are utilizing the advanced techniques like lie detector, while examining the accused and witnesses.
